Phong Nha Cave and Paradise Cave are different enough — one by boat, one on foot — that a single-cave visit only shows half the park. Choose a full-day tour that combines both over a shorter trip to just one, and check the listing's itinerary for exactly what's covered and in what order.
Pace yourself on the climb
The climb to Paradise Cave, roughly 200 metres up wooden steps, is the most physical part of the day. It's manageable for most fitness levels at a steady pace, but not rushed — take breaks, use the handrails, and enjoy the jungle views opening up as you climb. The boardwalk inside is gentler.
Dress for both hot and cool
You'll be hot and humid outside and cooler underground, sometimes markedly so in Paradise Cave's deeper chambers. A light long-sleeve layer that packs down small solves this without overheating on the buggy and boat legs. Closed shoes matter more than technical hiking boots — the paths are formed but can be uneven or damp.
